Default Boy I've got trouble with my King Quad.....

Hi to all! Boy do I got trouble!, My 2005 king quad 700 is giving me a speed problem and I'm wondering weather someone could help me out? First off my quad used to do about 114km an hour, I'm from Canada, now it won't break 99km an hour I first thought it was my UNI filter starving the motor for air but I put the quad on jacks and ran it without the filter and it does the same thing, it kind of make a sputtering sound when it hit's top speed, almost like the safety kicks in and retardes the motor but very early. Some people tell me it's the throttle positiong sensor and it needs to be adjusted I don't see how I can do that since I don't see any adjustment on it. Some people say it's the belt slipping but I've never heard of this in top speed before. So I figured I'd ask the pro's, "my fellow riders and brand brothers" if you guys have come across this problem and could steer me in the right direction before I dish out the big bucks to get it diagnosed....Please help!!!

if the belt is worn it will not ride as high in the pulleys and will reduce the top speed and may put you against the rev. limiter. check your belt and belt deflection/

Air temp, humidity, QUALITY OF GAS and a host of other factors influence performance. Sputtering at the top end indicates the limiter has been reached. Flat spotting and also hesitation surges at the top end indicate a rich condition. While at WOT if you rappidly decrease to 7/8 hrottle and it runs smoother then you are rich.
We are not getting the quality of gas that we did as little as a year ago.

Take your carb off and remove all the plastic and boil the carb in hot water. Your main jet may have some gunk or a spec of dust. Main jet needle may be worn a little and the angle on the end has changed.

The most common issues are with clean carbs, properly adjusted carbs etc and electircal - spark plug, coil etc.

Three things make power and speed - 1) correct air/fuel mixture, 2) correct spark, and 3) good compression.

Here are some possible causes for poor top end performance. It could be one or more.

1. High RPM "cut out" against RPM limiter 1. Shift into higher gear - decrease speed
2. Valve springs weak 2. Replace springs
3. Valve timing out of adjustment 3. Adjust timing
4. Cams - rocker arms worn 4. Replace cams - arms
5. Spark plug gap too narrow 5. Adjust gap
6. Ignition coil defective 6. Replace ignition oil
7. Float level too low 7. Adjust float height
8. Air cleaner element obstructed 8. Clean element
9. Fuel hose obstructed 9. Clean - prime hose

Z400MANIAC, If you can't contribute then why even comment.

It is better to stand around and look like a stupid, jackass than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Be an adult and behave like your Dad - that is if you know which one he is.
