Default 89' Zilla vs. 07' YZF450R SE Shocking!!!

I own a old 89 suzuki lt500r. Its mildly modified, bills pipe/silencer,v-force3 reeds, stock gearing/sprockets, thats about it. I have been tweeking with the carb a lot trying to get it just right. I was out riding and I ran into a buddy that owns a 07' Yamaha yzf450r. He took his baffle out of his exhaust and we lined them up. 89'LT500R vs. 07'YZF450R. I thought my zilla would blow the four stroke away.We did a test run or two, then we raced. We were racing in a open hay field. The first race he got the start on me I wasnt on the ball, I was on his *** the whole way, he won. I was shocked. The second race we took off perfect and stayed side by side the whole way, was very even. The third race, I got the jump on him a lil and I ended up barely winning. I know there is a 18 year, advance in technology but I thought a 500 Two-stroke would blow away a 450 Four-stroke.

My zilla was rebuilt 1 year ago with low hours(top end),

Are there any Quadzilla owners out there that can give me some good mods? I need to eat this 450 up!

Whats a good sprocket set-up? I know the zilla has tones of extra power, can i gear up without losing my my launch/take off?

Ha!,
Too bad you canceled your "Q" pipe order...
I guarantee the results would have been different.
"Google" LT250 LT500 HQ.
That is a Zilla/LT250R forum and you can find out all about mods for your Zilla from other guys who have them.

My first question is what tires do you run. If you want to go fast without spinning all your hp away, put a set of Ohtzu radials on it.(factory honda tires) They dont turn as well as some tires on some quads due to the amount of bite they have, but since its a zilla you are already wide enough not to worry about it. Get a keihn 39-42mm carb for it. And bump up that compression, you'll smoke'em

There are a lot of variablesto consider: weight, terrain, gearing, etc. You're probably spinning a lot on take off? What tires do you have on the rear? I did gear mine up to 14 on the front and I think 38 in the rear, just for passing cars on the highway.

you had a Q pipe on order and you canceled? That was not a good Idea. Put that pipe on and have the dr mod your stock carb and you will eat 450's. My ride with (2) yfz's an 04 and 07 (2) TRX's 05 and 07 and (1) LTZ400. The one TRX has cam intake pipe mods and the one yfz has gytr pipe intake mods and timing mod. I smoke all of them every time even if i let them get a head start they have no hope of staying ahead. I am even close with my banshee (see sig)

I have fairly wornpure sport tyres on my zilla, she just spins and spins and spins. All that power is beign lost on me. It even spins hitting 5th on a grassy field. But its great for slides lol

Zilla owners got to be proud of a what $3000.00 machine hanging with a....$7000.00 machine. Sounds like to me the best bang for the buck is the Quadzilla......Being that all high-performance bikes are topping out at about 75mph. By the way check out my new Spyder Roadster that is coming home in Sept. @ www.brp.com.

A ZILLA should downright destroy a YFZ450 i dont know how many times I have to say this on this forum and ive only been on it a few hours that a 2 stroke puts out twice as much power per cc than a 4 stroke does so that 500 should woop that 450 all day long. Ive also seen 250R's destroy yfz450's pretty easily so i dont know why a 500 wasnt out of sight when racing a 450 4 banger because the 250R which is the 500's little brother smokes them.
