LT250R QUADRACER
#1
I am 14 years old and am 5'6'' and weigh 135 pounds.I own a 88 250x and want a Quadracer,I ride fast and hard in the woods and at tracks. If you guys think the Quadracer is right for me,I know the 85-86 models are not as good as the later models but they may be my only choice. What are some of the problems they had and what should I check for. Thanks

it will be good for you. i'm only 5' 3" but it is good for me. its great to ride in the trails i ride pretty agressivley and it seems to be able to handle it. u should check the fram and swingarm for cracks before you buy it though.

i have a 86 lt250r and yes i know they are supposed to be less reliable then the 88 and up models but so far i have never had a problem with mine and i ride mine hard in the wooods and on the track. My friend rides an 88 and has more problems with his then i do with mine. Just check the swing arm for any cracks or weak spots and inspect the quad and look for trouble spots. Good luck with your 250 hunt and whatever year you get you will be sure to have an arm pullin head snappin good time.

check around the front shock mounts on the frame for any cracks, that's where a friend's broke.
also check:
front & rear suspension for play(looseness in any way- side to side, up/down, etc..)
any suspension mounts for cracks,
suspension components for bent parts, (on '85-86 q-racers, the swingarm for cracks arount the axle carrier)
frame(esp. underneath) for bent tubes & broken welds
steering for play(very small amt is okay)
rear axle bearings for play,
air filter condition & mounting(indicates motor condition & how the owner cared for it)
tranny oil... (if its white/grey you have water in it, any metal shavings, etc.. is bad)
if you have the tools, do a compression check.
finally...
ride it, listen to how the motor runs, & decide if you are ready to cope with whatever problems may be there.
