Default Still having trouble

I had a friend com over to loo at my Z today. He said my tranny may be bad. I'm out of suggestions. I don't wanna take it to the shop for fear of not getting the title. My "ex" buddy skipped town leaving me with the Z and no title. I still owe him $ 300.00 on it but can't get ahold of him for 2 mos. now. I talked to my brothers attorney yesterday and she said the best thing to do is to sell it or part it out. So I guess I'm gonna start parting it out. Everything's good except the tranny. If you guys know anyone looking for parts, let me know. It's an '04 Z400. Pretty much stock except for the RENTHAL chain and sprocket set (14T-40T) & Rear ITP Holeshot XCR tires. No front bumper. The engine still runs excellent (all stock) with around 120-140 miles or so. Can hear run.

Why do you need the title to take it to a shop? I wouldn't think they would even care...If your buddy actually has the title it's not stolen, run it in there and get it fixed, or pick up a manual and tear into it yourself!

I don't wanna take it to the shop til I have the title in-hand and don't know when or even if he'll give me the title. I've got the last payment waiting for him. Plus, I really don't wanna spend the extra $ to fix it. And I do have the service manual but don't have the time to tear into it. I've never tore into one before. I've only done minor things to quads. Anytime I've started something and never been able to finish it, I end up screwing myself either by it costing too much to have someone else finish what I started or losing parts. The only thing I know to do is to try and get some of my $ back in case my buddy try's to renig on our deal. I think I'm just gonna put it up for sale (parts). I can sell everything but the frame. At least I can get some $ to add some things to my Prarie 650.

You don't have to have a title on any quad as long it is not reported as stolen. Anyways they are not really a title, but a bill of sale. I know it looks like a title but it isn't and the banks or dealers will tell you the same. Part it out on ebay or sell it a whole bike needing work.

Don't know what state you live in Rusty, but in Ohio, it is a "Certificate of Title" not a bill of sale. If I sell my quad, I have to go to a notary, with the buyer, just like a car.
Which brings me to Quadzilla's dilema, until you have that title in your hand, transfered to your name, you do not "legally" own that quad. Unless there is a notarized agreement between the 2 of you, maybe that might fly.
Have no idea how tight you and your buddy are, but let the quad sit until you have the title, to avoid legal problems in case he comes back to you wanting the quad and or cash.
Just my opinion, hate to see ya get screwed on it in the end.

Well, I decided to sell it on Ebay. I will get it fixed 1st. I think the problem is the crankshaft bearing on the left side. I seen on Ebay there's another 04 Z400 Limited Edition and the guy said the same thing. He doesn't have a title but a bill of sale that he will sign with the buyer. I will do the same thing with whom ever buys it off me. My cousin works w/ the WV FBI and my cousin works w/ the WV state police. They both said that I or anyone else for that matter can get a salvage tiltle for the quad and if it never gets reported stolen for 6 mos., I or they can switch it to a licensed state title as long as they have a bill of sale for at least 6 mos. The one on Ebay is going for more than $1800.00. I'll sell mine for $ 1600.00 and who ever buys it can come get it.

I live in TN now and when I lived in Alabama I bought 2 atv's out of MS. I had a loan on one of the atv's and when I paid it off, I asked for the title and they said well it is not really a title exactly, but it sure looked like one to me. Nothing was signed over or nothing, they just gave it to me.

Now my question is what about a 10 yr old or so atv, it will not have a title most likley anymore? People sell bikes and atv's all day long with no title. I have never seen or known anyone to title an atv or bike. There is no transfrerring like a car at the DMV here, but i have never lived in a yankee state before and the regulations must be different for this situation. The south does not require this. Man its a lot easier living in the south with less regulations to have to fight everyday. I bet you have to have a permit just to go to the bathroom in the north??.... LOL....

Doesn't make any sense. 70 percent of atvs out there are not titled. Take it to a local atv/motorcycle mechanic if you dont feel comfortable with a dealer. You dont have anything to worry about if its not stolen. Belive me, your local builders are not about to call in vin #'s on bikes they work on. Some people may look down upon that kind of stuff and the last thing a builder wants is a bad name. Bad news spreads like wildfire. Good news is hard to come by. Most builders keep there mouth shut and do what they are getting paid to do. Thats it, out the door
