z400 choke problems
thank you for the welcome.......i appreciate the help ...........i thought that up was on and down was off but it was doing some really wierd stuff and had me confused because it was acting like it should be the opposite............. i think i found the problem though today when i was messing around with it ....
i put a new battery in it the other day and i guess my conneciton wasnt very good so i tightened the connection and it fired up....but now it fires up easily with the choke off and barely fires when its on.......could this be the idle out of adjustment because i was screwing around with it before i found the loose connection........again thank you very much for the reply.......
.................................................. ................. im sorry if i sound like an idiot

Mucky had it backwards. Choke is on when the lever is rotated down (arrow points toware ON position). Choke is off when the lever is rotated up. Make sure to let the bike warm up a bit before turning the choke all the way off (or it will die like you describe).
When warmed up and the choke is off, turn the idle adjustment up a bit and see if that fixes the idling with the choke off.

when you start it using the choke.......shouldnt it bog down a little once it hits normal temperature....and then you turn it off...........because right now it revs really high when the choke is on.........(choke lever down).......and when its off.....(choke lever up).......it acts fine........this is like i said .......after it has warmed up............it just back fires alot since its been sitting for some time now....i need to clean the carb and all that good stuff but the stinking choke isnt acting like it used to.............thanks for the help

You start it with the choke lever "DOWN" which is "ON" once the engine starts you push the lever 1/2 way between DOWN/ON and UP/OFF ..... once the quad is warm enough to idle (after about 30 seconds depending on temp) you push the choke the rest of the way UP/OFF and it should idle fine.......
