Okay, so here's my delima. I live in Virginia. I bought a bike online and when I receive the paperwork, there is not a title (I think). I did receive a Certifcate of Origin. Can someone please tell me the difference between the two? Is there a difference.

When you buy a NEW bike - one that has never been registered you get a the cert. of origin from the manufacturer.
when you go to get plates or register it you bring that with you and then the dmv will make a title for the vehicle.( you still get to keep the cert. of origin) at least in AZ. that is where I bought my last new bike from

cert. of origin and a title are two different things.

when you have a title that means it was registered and some state got the SALES TAX is what it boils down to.

The certificate is what comes from the factory. When (or if) you register it with your state, they get the cert. and send you back a title.

a certificate of origin is a piece of paper that the factory gives you so can register the machine legally. you do not get a title until you OWN the machine (its all paid off).

 

The bike is paid off. I applied for the application yesterday. Thank you though!
