Is 50 volts out of the ordinary? It should be unregulated voltage at the magneto. Do you have another coil from any other engine? A car, truck, moped, anything will do for a test. You can check continuity in the suspect coil with an ohm meter. I don't know what the values should be, but anything less than infinity or greater than 0 is encouraging. If the magneto, coil, pickup coil, and plug is good... You know what that means... CDI

from what i was told the magneto should only be putting out 13 volts, but if its unregulated then i guess there isn't anything to worry about...however it isn't getting any juice to the CDI box either...i believe...

If the regulator is hooked up when you take the measurements, 13 sounds ok, but if not then I would guess the voltage would go up as the rpms go up. I really don't know for sure.

In a few days I will have some repair manuals coming. They were shipped a couple days ago. Maybe there will be a diagram that will help.

Try to find the wire that supplies juice to the cdi. Then hook the red voltmeter lead to that wire and the black lead to the frame and see if there is juice getting to the cdi.

yeah there is juice to the cdi but i am not sure if its the right amount going either in or out...yeah man if you get those books and can give me some kind of idea of the different output readings from the stator to the coil maybe i can eliminate some things and finally decide whats causing the lack of spark to the sparkplug...i'm hoping its not the cdi but i am afraid thats probaly what its going to be...any help u can give me would be greatly appreciated...thanks

I haven't seen much in the way of testing cdi's. Usually the process is to test everything else and figure the cdi is bad by elimination. I'm still wondering if your coil is good. Did you use an ohmmeter to check that out?

yeah...one of my buddies tested it but he doesn't thinks that the coil is receiving enough juice...but i guess i could just buy a coil and give it a shot...the day before it quit running i swamped the 4wheeler so it could have shorted the coil...it ran fine till i got it home and parked it...the next day when i went out to start it it wouldn't start...and the coil is not overly protected...i'll ask my buddy how much juice he got to the coil...thanks again...

ok here is whats going on 50amp ac coming out of the magneto, nothing out of the cdi, my friend said it could be the magnetic eye sensor but i am guessing its the CDI, do u know where i could buy a used cdi, or the magnetic eye sensor that reads the stator?
