Default LTZ400 years 2004 - 2008 changes?

Okay I am looking to get back into atv riding, because it's sooo much fun in the winter! Anyhow, I used to have a 2004 TRX400EX and I like it a lot. I definately need something with reverse and don't want to buy brand new. So basically I am deciding between the TRX400EX and the LTZ400 in the 2004-2007 years.

I'm wondering about the z400 because I see a lot of 2005 and 2006 models used on ebay and was wondering are these quads junk? or are they actually better than the TRX400ex? which is faster, more powerful? and what model changes has there been over the past 4 years?

Thanks

The shocks are better on the Z. The gearing for trail riding is better on the TRX. But a simple sprocket change can take care of that.

Keep in mind, these were sold as the LTZ 400, the KFX 400 and the DVX 400. So there's a bunch of them out there.

I think either choice is good , but the Z/DVX/KFX are liquid cooled compared to the TRX(air cooled). My buddies TRX over heated in the trails during the summer. I personally like the feel of the TRX over my DVX , but then again , I weigh 130lbs soaking wet @ 5' 6" tall. So, if your a short dude such as myself , then may be the ergos.(Im not even gonna try spelling that) may suit you better on the TRX.
I personally know the Z/DVX/KFX are faster than the TRX ,but its nothing to get excited about. Thats bone stock bikes.

Squale, I think your better off getting the Z/DVX/KFX , all the parts a interchangable minus the plastics. Parts are abundant. The 03-04 Z models don't have the rezzie shocks. The 05-07 models do. 03 Z models suppose to have a weak frame. I don't know anyone that has actually cracked it. Suzuki corrected that issue in 04 I think. Chain adjusting plate on the earlier models 03-04? would crack? Suzuki changed that from a dual bolt setup to a single bolt setup. What ever your choice is if you decide to go to Z/DVX/KFX, I would go for 2005-2007 models. Anyway, Good luck!!!
