I seen the craziest thing on our LT80. I went out to the garage and smelled gas really bad coming from the LT80. After looking around there was gas coming from the top of slide cap. So i took a screw driver and popped the intake hose off and gas poured out of it. So im guessing that the vacuum operated petcock had failed and let gas to continue to run in the carb. But why would didnt the overflow work and dump the gas on the ground? Instead it filled the whole carb with gas till is was coming out the top of the slide cap and into the airbox hose. And now that im thinking about it, i bet it filled the cylinder up as well. Any thoughts on why this might do that?

The needle and seat is not sealimg. Gas couldn't continue to run if it was no matter what the petcock was on. Could have a hole in the float causing it to sink or cuold have a piece of trash in the needle and seat causing it to stay open. Most likely trash as your overflow is plugged also.

Well, there is no overflow. That explains that eh. LOL
Cleaning the carb (removing both jets AND the float needle seat) usually helps.
On is Off (petcock) untill vaccum is made (motor cranked). Prime runs fuel constantly. I think you know all this but others may not.
The petcock can go bad and let fuel leak by, thus the hydraulic weight pushes fuel by the needle.
Along with the carb cleaning, a cheapo on/off valve from the lawn mower shop works well.
