88 Suzuki Lt250r -or- 03 Kawasaki Kfx400
I am about to buy a quad. I am not sure which one to buy. I need some help!
There is a 88 Suzuki lt250r for $1300. It has renthal double wall bars, boysen rad valve ported to 40 mm, honda 250r carb jetted, new FMF fatty pipe and power core silencer, Polished douglas wheels with holeshot mx tires at 85%. new rear caliper and pads, new radiator and steerins stem. Is this quad worth it? And what does it top out at max speed?
The other is a 03 Kawasaki kfx 400 for $1500. It has new grips, new tires, new k&n, twist throttle, seat cover, fmf titanium exhuast, and a new chain. What does this top out at?
So which one is an overall better quad? I originally liked the 250 but the kfx is sooo much newer and it's a great price. What do 88 lt250r's go for? Is $1300 a good deal?

well your dealing with two VERY different animals, i would be kinds suspicious of that KFX it seems WAY too cheap. anyway hte 250r is a two-stroke racer, it likes to be wound out. the KFX since its four stroke wont mind hte lower rpms required for the trail. if your doing trail riding, get the kfx,

For $200 more get the KFX. I've owned an LT250R, nothing wrong with them, but kick start VS electric.... mixing gas & oil VS straight gas at trail stops..... no reverse VS having reverse. Plus the KFX/Z4--'s aren't that much slower than the old 250's
In fact when I had my Q'racer my one riding buddy who has an '04 KFX400 & I dragged on the road and I could only pull a couple lengths on him thru 5th gear & then walked right away from me on top end.
So, I guess moral to my story is just as it started, get the KFX.

Check the frame out really well on the kfx. The 03 models were prone to cracking if they were ridden hard. Normal use it wasn't so much of a problem.
Look around where the shocks mount. Don't mistake cracking paint for a cracking frame, and don't let them tell you that the cracking frame is just cracking paint.
Catman is right, around here that KFX would be selling for twice that.

ive ridden an raced most sport quads out there and my stock 05 kfx can beat tecate 4's and honda 250rs with decent riders that are piped an jetted. the lt250 is probably near the same power as those 2. these drags are close but 4 stroke is easier to maintain and its a lot newer. if you can buy both. they are both good deals but make sure nothing is wrong with the kfx cuz that is a cheap cheap deal.

gotta be something wrong with the kawi like others have said its way to cheap . if you are power hungry hands down the Lt is the way to go . very fast machine . the kfx is in my opinoin one of the best atvs on the market to day all the way around but definatly check it over for flaws and make sure it isnt stolen ... good luck

im going to be a little biased here and say the lt250r! after all that is what i ride. does great on the trails and hills when power is needed at an instant. i dont know much about the kawi though. either way good deal as all have said! alot can be done to the 250r for looks as well. check out my pic for a few things i have done to mine!
