If you're going to do any type of serious riding, I'd say yes.
All it takes it one time for your foot to come off the pegs and go under the rear tire to convince you of that.

+1 for nerfs if you ride it like a true sport. I have a friend that landed straight up-and-down off a jump and his foot slipped off the peg. Ended up tearing his ACL and breaking some bones in his foot. Now the poor guy has a huge recovery ahead of him ... might not even ride this next season. It's not worth the risk. Get the nerfs.

Agree with the other riders.. I started back riding a lttle more than a year ago, new bike w/out nerf bars. During a normal ride two months ago, trails were wet and my back wheel caught a tree...it was a short flight. I made it out w/a few fractured ribs, folded rim and bent axle. Worse part was I had the bars in the garage, waiting for brackets to be powercoated.
If they were on, I would have slid off the tree, saved $$ and possibly my neck. Its a clear decision here.
