Repairing 2000 LT 80 questions

Hey LT,
Complete stranger with lt80 questions, I hope I'm not out of line, as we don't know each other.
It seems as if you are the one to ask about my kid's 2000 lt80. Everyone on this site says so!!!
It has some problems.
I just had a new piston put into it and my guy suggested a new cylinder as it looks like a cat scratched the inside of it. No problem, I'm on that as well. (It lacks power next to a new one)
I had him put it back together so we could do a quick 2-day trip I had already promised the kids.
It made it thru the weekend and now I want it good as new if not better.
I'm putting in a new starter (as it sounds like it has a chipped tooth)
New cylinder.
The piston and rings are new but will be inspected as well for damage from the 2-day trip.
I was told buy a guy who I took it to originally to see what was wrong with it that the clutch was packed with sand and had issues. Something like it wouldn't expand properly. (Forgive me but I don't know what he said for sure) I do know he said there were grooves worn into parts of the clutch and they may smooth out over time and correct themselves. I don't think it works like that.
I think replace the clutch, right?
Does that make sense to you or does that sound like crap?
I think crap, but I don't know what I base that on, as I don't know CRAP about the clutch.
I am interested in making the quad reliable for now, back to new, performance.
Oh, while I'm asking away do you have plug wire caps you recommend? Stock plug?
The cap that is on there isn't wide enough to take the screw-on resister on the top of the plug.
Any other suggestions like jets or whatever comes to mind. I believe you know this quad and your not trying to sell me something. That goes along way with me for sure.
Sorry to bother you with this but everyone I know to ask try's to sell me something I'm not sure I need.
One guy said a pipe and carb kit. (The cylinder is hammered so that won't help)
Another guy said, "just get bigger tires"
Please let me know what your thoughts are on the clutch if you don't mind.
Any other thoughts you have as well would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx again,
Dave
P.S. What is the benefit of the squared off tires as opposed to the balloon tires that comes with it?
