Default New tires for the Eiger

A tree branch put a huge hole in one of the rear stock Dunlops. The other had a slow leak, so I decided to replace both rears.

Nice! However, I bet that those new tires with big lugs like that are actually a larger diameter than the stockers - you may want to look into changing the fronts too. If you hit 4WD on hardpack you'll probably get some scrubbing. Shouldn't notice anything in mud though.

Yeah, I thought about that. When I get them mounted, I'll compare them side by side with my wife's machine and check the height difference. If it's more than 1/4", I'll probably order a set for the front. But the front tires still look nearly new, so I hate to replace them just yet.

I rolled the ATV by hand while 4WD was engaged and it rolled easily with no evidence of scrubbing. I parked my wife's machine next to mine backwards to see if i could see any height difference and it looks like the new tires are maybe 1/2" taller...but looking at my front tires compared to her rear tires (stock), I saw the same height difference. So maybe the Eiger has a slightly different gear ratio in the front differential compared to the back to compensate... kinda like my Dad's classic King Quad that runs 24x8x11 on the front and 25x10x12 on the rear.

According to the manual, the Eiger's gear ratios are the same front and rear. However, I also noticed that the rear tires look taller than the fronts on mine even though they are both 25" tires. I measured the tires and the rears are about 1/2" taller from the floor-even with less air in the rears than the fronts. My guess is that since all 4 wheels are the same width and the fronts are 2 inches narrower, the rears are able to bulge out further than the fronts making them effectively taller when mounted on the wheels. For this reason I was planning on putting 25x10-12 tires on all for corners when I replace the stockers.

I have only rode it around so far on the street. Below ~5mph on the pavement you can feel the treads a little, but i took it up to 25-30mph and it handled like normal. Haven't had a chance get out on the trail in the rocks and mud yet.

I installed my winch too so I'm hoping to get out this weekend.
