89 Suz quad, does it have a title?
My Son wants to buy a 89 Suzuki 230 quad. The guy selling it tells me they don't title these machines. Is this true, or is the guy trying to dump a potential hot machine?
Do you need to register with the state? If so, the title would be required.
Is there a way to run the serial number?
How do you get insurance for liability and personal injury?
Sorry, I'm new at this, trying to look out for my Son's spontaneous decision.
The guy wants $500, he said it was rebuilt once and runs fine, just some banged up fenders.
Would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

It depends on which state you live in as to if it gets registered but that suzuki defintely came with a title. Ive got one for everyone of my toys. Well all except for the Rupp minibike.

I'm in the Air Force and I'm stationed in Colorado (originally from Maine), I bought my first quad in August 2007. 1986 Suzuki LT230QS. The individual whom I purchased the atv from didn't have a title so I simply went thru the Parks and Recreation web site and registered the quad via the frame VIN
# and received stickers and a card for it to ride legally on public lands.
So it does depend on your state but that is how it works here in Colorado.
On a side note if you do purchase it use this thread 85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help. and you will find answers to almost any questions you have, and if you can't find it we can probably find one.

I'm in PA. I just downloaded the state laws for ATV's.
Yes, it needs a title, has to be registered, a plate displayed on the back with current expiration sticker, and you need liability insurance.
Thanks for your help mywifesquad, I'm trying to help my Son make the right decisions.
If the bike doesn't have a title, there's a bad vibe why it doesn't. He wants to buy it from a "friend of a friend".

Your welcome.
I feel the same way.
Im pretty sure you can call your DMV and give them the frame/engine numbers and they should be able to look them up. I have done this a few times and only once was it actually stolen.
