Default 06 Vinson won't start

New to the forum so hope i do everything right. but down to business...I ahve an 06 vinson manual that wont start. Have cleaned carb, changed spark plug, and ignition coil and still nothing. At first it was tough to start and would idle rough puffing smoke (white). Looks like some soot around the end of the pipe. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I am totally lost at this point.

Go down this list

make sure there is gas
make sure you have right amount of oil
make sure no on off switchs are off
make sure the gas is going to the carb
make sure its not flooded

then if all theses are good

then try to start if wont fire up choke it

and if still not
take the choke off and take out your air filter and spray starting fluid into the carb from the box

try starting it should fire over now

if not then your screwed cause its an electiral prob

Yeah thats what I'm afraid of.. have tried everything you listed, sprayed it with starting fluid and absolutely nothing. Im fearing it may be the CDI (ouch) cheapest i've found im looking at about $320.

Trying to get ahold of a buddy with a vinson to borrow his cdi to find out if thats what it is before i order one.

Could it be anything else i'm overlooking?

Check all your fuses for 12 volts. Check both sides of the fuses. Remove your spark plug, hook it back to the wire, ground it to the engine, crank it over and check for a good spark. If no spark the I'll agree with a bad CDI.
