Default Jetting on my buddies Z400

My buddy seems to be having jet problems.........he recently put a hmf slip on and k&n air filter............what should he have this bike jetted at? it runs good it just has some issues in high revs.........my buddies warrior beat him in a drag race so i know its not running how it should be.......especially since my freind with the z is far far more experienced with riding in general and drag racing

Been a while since I jetted the Z for the HMF, but I'm thinking I have a 165 main in, with no lid. Have no idea about the screw or what clip the needle's in though

Try a 150 main with the lid. You shouldnt worry about the screw or clip if that the only mods. Also ,I think HMF has jetting specs on their website.

we bought a Dyno-Jet kit. I was SHOCKED that the directions said for an aftermarket pipe and filter, go with a 124 jet, and put the needle on the #3 (middle) setting. ALSO, it also said to turn out the mixture screw to 3 1/2 turns. the stock jet is a 132!! Anyways, i figured they must know since they engineered it. We tried it, and it runs great. Maybe I'm underestimating what a bigger jet would do. When I tell people we have a 124 main, they seem very surprised. And he races his friend with a Warrior with a pipe and jet, and it's no contest=Z wins

IF...I remove the airbox restrictor, then they say to go up to a 144 main. open airbox is a 150 main. this assumes an aftermarket pipe. I just re-checked and edited this post. This is ALL based on elevation below 3000'. elevation above 3000' changes all the recommended main sizes.
