well heres my story i was riding my atv the other day in the slush and it got really wet and turned off and wouldnt start,so after letting it dry out over night in a garage it starts up and runs fine for like 15 mins or so then it starts backfiring and has a rev limiter in forward gears and stalls.its like the same rev limiter you have for reverse but in forward gears,the atv still idles fine.i know its something electrical being that how wet it got that night im just not sure if its bad coil or CDI rev box?

 

Couple of years ago mine did the same exact thing, riding in the mud, come to find out the vent hose for the gas cap was plugged.
I guess it could be your CDI or coil, since it starts right up and idles fine. Luckily I've never had any electrical problems with mine yet. Maybe someone will chime in with the same experience. Do you think it may be the carb?

 

we ride deep river water and mud. my son's is acting similar. FIRST, his air box was full of water. second, we dried the air filter. I also drained the carb a few times. It will start, run, then die and not run. I am going to take carb apart as i think a jet may be plugged. there was a fair amount of crud in the fuel bowl.

 

problem solved there was a hole in the gas line

 

awesome, cheap easy fixes are the best ones. It did sound like a fuel starvation problem.
