'05 KQ, lost rear 4wd/diff

'05 KQ, lost rear 4wd/diff
Hi,
I have a KQ 700 that's a primary workhorse for us at 10,200 feet in the Rockies. It seems that my rear axle is acting like 2wd only all the time. Front seems ok. But I live in steep mountain area, plow snow, etc. Going uphill now is very dicey, and steering wanders like crazy even with chains etc.
Any ideas on what to check first? In a real bind, any help appreciated...
