Z400 starter clutch

Default Z400 starter clutch

Wow that's cooked! I wonder what the heck happened? Looks like the drum may be OK though.

Default Z400 starter clutch

if you look at pic#2, there are 6 EMPTY bolt holes. ALL 6 of these allen-head bolts had loosened out of the starter clutch (drum), and were grinding against the stator. 5 of them were stuck to the stator magnets. not too sure how they got out in the first place tho.

Maybe the loc-tite guy at the zuki' factory took the day off? What are you looking at, a new stator, plus the bolts? Could there be more pieces floating around inside the motor?

it appears the motor is sealed from this area (just the crank end is exposed, and goes through a seal). I already ordered a starter ctutch from ebay, and now I just ordered a stator. so hopefully, I just swap out the parts. i would probably need some new bolts, but the replacement starter clutch assembly should already have these attached.

upon closer inspection, those bolts didn't loosen off, they're ALL sheared off!!
