1985 suzuki 230 chain

I need a good working suzuki 230 bottom end. My crank bearings are smoked and I have no way to get the case split to get at the bearings. Also I have no way to press everything back together. Any leads would be awesome!

Although I haven't split my cases yet, I'm about to.... and a bunch of other guys here have lots of times. Its not that big of a deal. Send the crank to Vince's and $130 he puts a new rod on it and new bearings. About the only special tool you need is the flywheel puller.

It took me hrs of searching around on the net before I could figure out which one I needed. I haven't used it yet, but I'm pretty sure that's the right one.
When you use the tool, use a little heat from a propane torch to EVENLY heat the flywheel AS YOU ARE PULLING. This may take 2 people.... One to heat and the other to work the puller. The reason is you don't want to mess up the end of the crank by pulling too hard. Although Vince said he can fix it and its no big deal. http://vincescycle.tripod.com/newparts/lt230s.html Call him. He's a pretty nice guy that will probably keep you on the horn for a while talking 230 stuff.
You really should get some kind of service manual too. There are things you'd never think of just using your small engine general knowledge. Like,,,, where to put locktite, rtv, etc,,,, How tight to make the bolts...
I would almost bet you need a new rod. I bet the wrist pin will wiggle in the rod and the whole rod will wiggle on the crank. This will make it impossible to keep from burning oil when you bore it out and install a new piston. You'll eat up the new bore job in a couple months like I did.

Yeah, it stinks that I have to put some money into it. I would really just love to find a bottom end because this was just a beater quad to boot around on, I dont want to sink much money into it at all. But those sound like some pretty viable options. Oh yeah, I have the service manual, too, so I'm all good on that front.

No matter what you do, there is going to be money involved. Even a used bottom will still be worn out and need building, so you're not buying much time that way.

or u can take the bottom end to a suzuki shop and pay them 5-10 bucks to remove it for u. When u do split cases make sure u note where the lil round shims go cause they have to be put back in same spot

Hey JustRandy, did you try that puller yet? I am confused because I have seen references to both right hand and left hand threads on the 230, and from the listings I see, 85 and 86 uses a different puller than 87 up. Want to make sure I get the right one.

No, I didn't try it yet. I'm building a backhoe and its taking forever. I didn't want crack the case until I could devote full time to it. But I remember having the same problem you're having with the rh and lh threads. I don't remember 85 86 87 having different threads though. I went to different manufacturer websites to figure out the right one.

Then go here: http://www.powersportrider.com...OR0208C&catpage=829.00 and see the 15-0620 is the one for the GSF400 Bandit, GS1000/GG1100 Late model, TM125/250/450, TS250 early model...... Which is the one I bought from bikebandit.
If you go to other manufacturer sites, you'll see that 30x1.5mm external RH threads is what you want. In order for me to have the wrong one, bikebandit would have screwed up or a bunch of catalogs would have to be wrong. Possible, but not likely.
Maybe the suzuki dealer can verify the threads???
