Default just got a 03 z400 and i have a stupid question about it

well this is a really dumb question but im trying to figure out if this thing has enough oil in it or if its bruning oil but on the dip stick about how much oil should i be able to see to have the proper amount because i didnt get an owners manual with it...the guy had lost it and the dip stick doesnt have any lines telling me ware it should be...right now with the eninge moderitly warm it has about a 1/4 of an inch of oil showing on the stick is this normal or no?

If you have, or want to get a gmail account, I can send you the factory service manual for it.

Sorry, wrong thread.

There should be two lines on the dipstick. Fill it to the upper line.

Run the bike for about 5min. or so. Shut it down. Give it another 5min. and then check your stick. If the stick has it on the stick at all, then your good. I like mine at the halfway mark. You never check the oil on a cold engine(Z400 AT LEAST).

Yea , you should be OK, but then again, if its burning oil and you don't know it, then maybe you might want to add a little .

my concern is that if your dipstick doesn't have any markings on it, like a notch mark, then is it even the correct dipstick, and is it reaching into the crankcase deep enough, or at the right level?

make sure you are checking the oil by resting the dipstick on the threads, and not screwing it in
