The Z400 have a issue with the intake valves cupping and getting tighter.
I am putting the Daughters Z back together right now.
I had the same problem and checked the valve lash and had 0 lash.
I adjusted the valves for a temporary fix but the clearances got smaller.
The real solution is a couple of Kibble-white stainless intake valves.
