04 Eiger Belt Change
#1
Is there a magic move, trick or special sequence to removing and replacing the belt on these Eigers? I have tried w/out success to rotate the belt off as you would with a snowmobile. Do I have to pull the clutch off to do this job?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Good to hear. What all comes in the clutch kit and how difficult was it to install? I have impact wrench, and a puller. Do I need to get some kind of a spring compressor?
Thanks again. It's great to talk w/someone who has the same machine!!!

Give yourself a full day and yes you need a spring compressor. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the hardest) I put it at about a 6. I'm self taught at doing this stuff and was able to get by with the directions from the company.
That being said, when dealing with mechanicals anything can go wrong. There's a guy trying to do one now and having issues so you never know when things wont work like they should.

Thanks for all the help. I'll post the results when I get the clutch kit.

Good luck. How do you like the Bighorns? I'm thinking about another set of tires for my old rims. Some of the places around here won't let you ride with the big lugs and my factory tires aren't too good when it gets challenging.

They are a great tire. The lugs are plenty deep, and I love the ride and feel of the radial. Another one to consider is the ITP TerraCross Radial. I've got a set of these on my other Eiger, and have approx. 900 miles on them will very little wear and awesome performance. Our riding covers a variety of terrain. Lots of rocks, sagebrush, logs, sand, water, mud, and snow. The only time I've ever been stuck with these was in deep deep snow, (high center) even then, they were an asset. Because in reverse they grab great, due to the non directional tread pattern. Anyway, I'm sold on radials with non-directional tread patterns. The BigHorn sits approx 1.5" taller (taller profile) than the TerraCross, but the TerraCross gives more tire to ground surface contact. (Wider profile) Whatever, tire you go w/make sure it has at least a 6-ply rating. I've taken side by side photos, but don't know how to get them inserted into this reply. If you would like to see them I'd be happy to e-mail them to you.
