Default z400 vs. ltr 450

I own a stock z 400, i went ridding this weekend with a bunch of 450s and couldnt keep up in wide open areas (got SMOKED) on the trail was on there butt. I think i out grown my z (2005). Rememeber no mods on the z. My buddy let me ride his ltr and i loved it. So what im askin is should i put mods on z (full pipe, jet,l filter, air box lid) or spend extra money on ltr? Or would modding z be the same cost? So is the ltr worth it? I do a lot of desert riding, fast trails, wide open river bottoms, some hill climbing, and bout 3-6 dune trips a year.

going ahead and trading your z in towards an ltr will make you most happy and save you time in the long run...cuz whether with or without mods on your z ur gonna want one sooner or later, youd have to spend a good boat load to get a z to make the power an ltr has...suspension another boat load...lol i just cant see it bein worth it in the long run, youd have a decked out z400 being equal maybe to a bone stock ltr, you go ahead and get the ltr then evuntually you could get things done to it to make it 10xs better then your z ever could be, but if you really wanted to, get a full pipe,440 kit, cams, intake, jetkit, elka shocks, aftermarket a-arms,axle and such things id guess youd be pretty close to an ltr...but in the long run its not really worth it unless your a dedicated z fan...just my opinion

I agree you'd be happy if you went with the LTR.

Your Z will be running long after the LTR. A pipe, high flow air filter with no lid and an exhaut will keep you right with them. You want pass them but you"ll be running long after theres is in the shop for a rebuild.

if you were to get a ltr your still going to have to do some modding ,stock ltr's are dogs till you start doing all the little tricks to make them run, but then thats drag racing . if it was narrow trails the ltz is the way to go.
my self i would like an ltr ,that is till i sat on the seat ,why they have to make that seat that hard is beyond me.

The 450 makes a lot more power from a little more motor. Any time you get more power from the same displacement or more power per CC it will wear out faster. If you build up the Z400 motor to make the same power it will wear out faster than a stock one. Of course some machines are just built poorly and therefore wear out faster but I suspect the ltr is a pretty good quality machine like most all quads made by major manufacturers.
