Default z400 vs. ltr 450

The thing is:::
A stock z400 is a great machine and like most stock machines will run forever.
Like TomM mentioned, start modding the motors and reliability will suffer.
The z400's have too much area between the head bolts. Too much comp and it blows. Go to a 470 (not to pick on you but as an example), once the crank is stroked and compression is increased, you will blow the bottom of the motor right out of it. Past GNC results have proved all this to us.

I'd get the LTR.

So you wish somebody had a modded Z400 so you could see what it can do? You've pretty much already seen what it can do if you rode the LTR. With just the big 3 mods, you'll be right with the LTR. Not to mention, you said you don't race, and spend most of your time on the trails. You'll appreciate the Z a lot more than the any race quad on the trails. Trust me, I had a Raptor 350, until my wife totalled it. I had insurance, and ended up getting a hell of a deal on an 07 TLD Predator. Sure, the Predator is insanely fast compared to the 350, but the 350 was way better on the trails. Now I have a quad that is geared way too high, with a huge lag on the low end, and way too much power for the trails I ride when it gets into the meat of the powerband.
