I've just rebuilt the engine on my 86 lt 230 and since the rebuild have lost the use of both reverse and neutral in the gear box and have no clue why it's doing this. Does anyone have any idea what it may be??? Idon't care toooo much about reverse...it's mainly neutral that i'm concerned with

 

sounds like the gear shift shaft is not in the proper position, there are 4 or five teeth on the end of it where it goes on the gear shift gear that is on the end of the shift cam and they have to be put in the right spot or you lose certain gears

 

thanks i'll check it out sometime this weekend. My dad figured it might have been that but the guide didn't say anything in it about this problem so we wanted to find online what it may have been but yeah thanks
