Suzuki LT160 is a 4-stroke. Pretty sure that you have to have a battery in it to keep it running, even with a bump start. When we had an LT80, we killed a battery with an aux headlight. As long as the voltage on the battery was low, it barely ran so I imagine it needs a constant 12v minimum to keep going.

You can get a $50 (or more) battery from your friendly Suzuki dealer or you can get a cheaper one from Wal-Mart.

My friend has an lt160. It has no battery and it starts and runs just fine without it. He just pop-starts it, and the headlight doesn't work very well. The biggest down-side is when it stalls in really rough terrain or a mud hole. I don't know why they didn't build it with a back-up starter.

Put it in 4th or 5th gear and hold the shifter in the "up" position. This will give you a neutral. Push it until you get a little speed and then drop the shifter into gear. If it hasn't been started in a while or you aren't sure of the condition of the motor, I would either tow it in gear to try to get it started or jump-start it off of a car or truck. Trying to pop-start a quad over and over again wears thin really fast.

"wears thin" is a figure of speech meaning that it gets old, or is a pain in the ***. You can pop-start in 1st, but you have a greater mechanical advantage if you use a higher gear so it's a lot easier in 4th or 5th and the tires won't tend to skid as much as opposed to turning like you want them to.
