Cold Natured Eiger
#1
I Just bought a 04 Suzuki Eiger 400. This is my first ATV. I went on an ATV tour in Mexico through Mayan ruins, ever sense then Iv really liked ATV's. It has about 850 miles on it. Its very cold natured(doesn't like to stay running at idle) even when its 90+F outside. Basically it takes 10 mins or so to warm it up and then it idles fine after that. Also it backfires a bit during this warm up period.
Guy I bought it from said it needed a valve adjustment or something like that. Is this true? Also would this be something I could do myself? Im sure this has to be a common problem, everything else is running great and iv had no other problems.

Eigers tend to be cold natured beasts. I have a 07 it is also like that after start up. I usually ride it with partial choke for the first minute or to. Also it should probably have valves adjusted if it has not been done already. It looks like its in nice shape, so are you putting on a winch or any other add on's?

Most likely I will get a winch. I cant really think of a time im really going to need one as of now but you know how those situations work out. I really want to put a Quadworks Stage 1 kit on it. My friend knocked the alignment out of whack the other day and bent my handlebar pretty bad, so ill be taking it in pretty soon. Hes paying for it but I was thinking about just paying the guy to also do a valve job and to put the jet kit on. Needless to say im a lot more cautious about letting people ride it now lol

I just bought a HMF utility pipe for my 02 Eiger and it comes with the jets. It was suggested to me to add a high flow air filter too. I have read once it is rejetted, the cold naturedness goes away. I just put a viper winch on my eiger too, in case you are looking for ideas.

Yeah, I was thinking about a pipe also, but I dont want something loud. I just want something maybe a bit louder with a well rounded sound. Not something thats going to make it sound nasty.

How much did that pipe cost you? On ebay im seeing them for like $230, I just don't get how they could cost that much. Entire custom reworking of the exhaust on my car was $218(Muffler n Labor).
