valve shims

Default valve shims

any idea on how long or how hard it is to put valve shims on a suzuki 2003 z400 quadsport? any special tools? need replies please!

You'll need a torque wrench and feeler gauges. A manual would be good as well or an experienced helper. Search the web for the clearance specs. Plan on setting aside one evening to do it.

Default valve shims

i have the manual for the atv. wondering if taking it to a shop would be better. dont know how much they would charge? the shims are numbered, is that the specs? thanks!

Default valve shims

to set the valve lash can take an hour or two. if you have never done it you need the service manual to help you it has the spec chart in it. you have to measure the clearance on the valves then use the chart to tell you what size the shims need to be. once you find it then you have to remove the cams and install the shims then reinstall the cams and then remeasure. if not in spec the you start all over if its in spec then you need to retime the cams to the crank
