lt230s swingarm, can it be welded?
#1
Hello everyone.
I have an 85 lt230s that my daughter rides. We were at the dunes last weekend and my brother in law was doing cookies on it(with paddles) and it threw the chain(yea, it needs swingarm bearings too). When we were putting the chain back on we noticed that the swingarm was cracked on the left side, at and above the shock mount.
My question is, what type of metal is this and can it be welded. I don't thing that the swingarm is made of aluminum because there is some rust present. Has anyone seen or heard of one of these swingarms being successfully welded?
I know that a new one is $200+ shipping, so I don't want to do that unless I have to.
Thanks!

You aren't a 230 owner until you have thrown yer chain!
It is just mild steel, and believe me, we all have extra welds on our swing arms!
Weld away, replace those bearings, buy a "universal" chain tensioner so you can run the chain a lil looser, and you will be golden!
Good luck.

Whew, good. I hope it takes to welding good. A friend of mine is a fabricator by trade and he said he would do it(he has yet to come look at it though).
Where do I get universal chain tensioner that will fit the lt230?
Thanks!
