Eiger brake drum removal
#1
Hi,
The rear brake shoes on my Eiger are shot. I bought new ones and tried to take apart the drum yesterday but I couldnt figure it out. I had the castle nut and cotter pin off, then I removed the bolts around the black drum. I couldnt pull the hub off nor could I see anything else holding it on. Do I need a to get a puller and pull it out or is there some trick I am missing?
Thanks for the help
John

Even though your shoes are shot, it could be that the brake shoes are gripping the drum too tightly. Try backing off on both the hand brake and foot brake cables back by the brake arm to loosen the grip. Alsomay take some gentle tapping on the drum to get it moving.
Since you haven't taken the drum off as yet means that you haven't been able to inspect your brake shoes. You may find that the shoes are OK but that your seals have leaked - causing the wet brakes to slip.

You need to pry that big metal thing in the center off. Mine was really stuck on there, and took quite a bit of prying, being careful not to bash things up too much. Once its loose and off everything comes right off. Most likely there will be alot of mud and water in there.
