Default LT 50 lack of power

I bought me son a 2003 Suzuki LT 50. I have not used it in a while and do not remember if the choke is closed with the lever up or down. It is a 2 stroke and I am also not sure if it is a LT50A or Z. I do rememeber that it is underpowered, although I am used to a Prairie 700. I believe someone told me I can open up the exhaust restrictor to gain some power. Is this true?
Thanks

Default LT 50 lack of power

I have a 2002 for my son. The choke is on when pushed down. There is a restrictor in the exhaust and one on the intake side. I have removed both, and also removed the inside of the muffler (wrong terminology) These changes have made a big difference in performance. It is still week on the low end. It does not like obstacles dips hills mud holes etc. at low speeds. It would be nice if there were some how to tighten up the clutch are something to put enough power to the rear wheels to spin them if needed. One more tip, when cold cranking turn the fuel valve to prime and wait about 5 min. before pulling it the first time.
