I have an 80 something (I think it's an 87) 230 quadrunner. A while ago (been about 2 years now I think) I was riding it when the engine sprocket broke, causing the chain to kink and blow a hole out the side of the motor. The part that broke (besides the sprocket) is in the picture. I'd like to know what it's called since I'm looking at getting it running again for something to mess around on. Any help is appreciated.

 

Looks like the stator cover to me.

 

stator cover, magneto cover, left side engine cover, all names it can go by.

For a new one you're looking at around $90 give or take

 

I found one on a site called cheap cycle parts. Has anyone here ever had any experience with them? It's $75 there and unless I find out that they have a reputation for crappy parts I'll probably buy it from them (along with some parts for my rubi).

Even $90 is cheap.

My experience with cheapcycleparts is shipping is HIGH and SLOW and they make you sign for it which means you have to be home or go to the post office to pick it up. Other than that, no problems.

 

Oh, btw, be SURE to use red locktite on the screws when you put the coils inside the new cover!!!! Don't forget!

I've seen em sell for that or more on ebay when you can buy new ones for $160 from a couple of places. I think Vince has some,,, or used to.

It's number 18. Maybe you were looking at a different quad?

 

That link just took me to the main page. What is your application? What quad do you have?

I looked under a 230 quadrunner and found a part that is $75, but that is NOT the part you have a picture of. The part in your pic is from a quadsport, not a quadrunner. Quadsport mag covers cost $160 minimum and I'd buy all I could get at less than $100 and sell em on ebay for 50% profit or more.
