I bought a 03 z400 about 2 months ago. Engine started stalling while idling. I took it to the Suzuki dealer and asked them to look into it and asked them to give it a tune up I told them I changed oil and filter, spark plug and cleaned K&N filter. I got it back after a week, they replaced the petcock and tightened a tie rod and charged me $300. When I picked it up they had to jump the bike with a battery and threw it in my truck 10 mins before they closed. Bike has trouble staring now and won't idle for more than 15 secs before it stalls. HELP!

 

You should try adjusting your valve lash. You will need a valve shim kit and torque wench. Try this link http://books.google.com/books?...=8&ct=result#PPA90,M1

and your carb may need cleaning and fuel mixture screw adjusted.
Sounds like your dealer is ripping you off, you need to learn how to work on your own quad or sell it, because you won't have enough money to keep it running. I did the above two things to my stepson's abused z400 and it made a big difference, starts easier and idles great.

 

Thanks for the advice, I called dealer and they told me to bring it back so I did and I will update when I get it back sometime next week. I have a Clymers manual for it but I just bought the bike and wanted to see if it had a clean bill of health, guess they don't know!

Got my bike back from the dealer yesterday, very nice about situation. When I dropped it off I asked them to replace the fuel line and adjust the idle which they didn't do. When I picked it up the second time they told me the fuel line was rotting and getting into the carb. Replaced for me cleaned carb and runs like a champ.
