Multiple LT230S Quads
I have a 85' LT230S and a 87' LT230S that tow of my kids ride. They are great machines, I actually have another 87' that has a engine in a box with cracked case. Maybe someday I will try to find a engine for that one. My running 87' is in nead of rear axle bearings, anyone ever replace these? Any tricks? I also am interested in changing the sprockets to try and acheive a little more on the lower end, anyone have any thoughts on this? Last I really want to find soemone who sells nerf bars for these, I would feel better having them for the boys when we ride.

Hey,
rear axle bearings are super easy. the way i do it is:
take off left rear wheel and hub
put bike in gear
use a big wrench to remove axle nuts
slide assembly out (you dont even need to take off your chain!)
loosen the carrier pinch bolts
take out carrier
remove old seals with screwdriver
bearings should come out with a little heating of the carrier/housing
clean everything up, and grease everything like crazy with good red wheelbearing grease
re-assemble
you might want to paint a bright colored line accross the two axle nuts to make it easy to see if anything has loosened after some riding.
as far as nerf bars go, dg makes a real nice steel set (as a matter of fact, i think theyre the only ones out there for the 230)
i think denniskirk sells them.
for your gearing question, im suprised you want MORE LOW END!!! these 230's are nothing but low end!
what sprockets are on there now, and what rear tire size are you running?
hth, austin
