performance guidance

I just recently stumbled onto a 91 lt230s for 350 dollars.. the bike runs great and has a few mods including a dg rcm exhaust a grab bar and itp holeshots on douglas rims(all this on bike wen purchased including brand new plastics and seat)the guy couldnt get bike running for 2 years turns out carb was full of water i had bike running in 20 minutes and he was crying. anyways I was wondering were to start in getting this beast a little faster(im surprised with the performance for a utility motor it is definatly comparable to my 02 blaster)i obviously want to put a k&n on but what about after that what sprockets should i run to get max out of powerband? how big should i jet carb with current pipe and stock compression?and were do i find the shifter bushing at? dennis kirk doesnt carry them and my local suzuki dealership is claiming the same(i could make it out of copper pipe but id prefer the factory piece)in the future i'd like to build a motor im thinking near stock bore for quick response but 12:5.1 comp or so(i plan to run on race fuel)and i heard i could run a 250s head, should i worry about valve clearance? does it otherwise bolt right up? if so what cam should i run with that so i could use a 32mm mikuni...how much power do u guys think this setup could put down?would it be reliable?any advice would help thanx.

well, youve got yourself a great deal, but they only made them from 85-88. unless, you have an lt230e, which is semi auto and electric start. they made them from 87-93.
for performance, youve already got the best pipe, but look into a UNI filter, and maybe a 30mm carb (32mm is hard to get running right). a 250s head flows a little better and has a bigger intake valve, and will bolt right on. kustom kraft and four stroke tech make 260cc big bore kits, and web camshafts has some nice cams. wiseco makes a 10.25:1 cr piston that is pretty nice. there isnt much you can do for the bottomend, it already has a monster stroke. if it needs rebuilding vincescycle is the only way to go.
be sure to check out the monster 230 thread, im sure it has EVERYTHING you could ever possibly need.
