Exclamation lt230s engine questions

I have had a 1985 lt230s for a few years. Now its my sons quad and i acquired another 1985 lt230s in awesome shape and a 1988 lt230s that needs a rebuild. I have a complete motor for parts but i dont know what year it is. the parts motor needs crank bearings and the engine in the 88 thru a rod and destroyed the top end and possible the bottom too. the crank on the 88 is all rusty so i want to use the crank from my parts engine. I need to find out what year my parts motor is to see if i could have the crank rebuilt for the 88. What was the difference in the engines from 85-87 verses 88 and up? And how do i decode the engine vin number? thanks for any help mike

Ive had a couple of these quadsports myself and i think all the 230cc engines are the same. Id say tear them both down and go from there.

your parts will interchange, and for crank rebuilding, nobody's better than vince at vince's cycle. he knows 230's INSIDE AND OUT, and has very reasonable prices. hes also one of the nicest guys you'll ever talk to.

good luck!

Thats great to hear! I also wanted to install a mild cam. A 188 grind or a lt250s cam.

ok, look at web camshaft or megacycle.

make sure you call web, since they have many more grinds available than whats just on thier site.

however, both of those options require hardfaced rockers and stiffer springs (im pretty sure). so, your easiest option would probably be the 250s cam.
