Default 2003 Z400's

hey,

i should be picking up an 03 z shortly, but i just read about some upper front shock mount issues?

what's the problem? and how hard is it to fix?

ah yes i forgot about that.... they didnt put enough gussets on the fron shock mounts all you need to do is weld a triangle gusset in and you will be good to go.. or you can get a gusset kit from bare performance for about 80 bucks.

ok, its part of the upper front shock mount on the frame, right?

Well to be honest this problem was not really as bad as some say...... They do break, but it is not like they break under normal riding conditions.... I've seen people shy away from the 2003 but really, unless you are a pretty aggressive rider you won't break them....

The biggest problem is hard hits off big jumps where the suspension runs out. I've not heard of one breaking under conditions of basic trail riding or even light abuse.

It is good to know it could be a problem, because you can keep an eye on it.....and you can be prepared for a plan of action if it does break..... But so far in most cases I've seen they hold up well enough.

if you not mx'ing alot or going over large jumps you wont have a issue.. but it never hurts to gusset and they look pretty kool also.

alright, well im definatley going to gusset since it cheap, and im a VERY agressive mx and xc rider (i have a bad tendedncy to break things haha)
