My first 4wheeler
#1
Hey guys,
Got what I hope to be a great deal on a 230. I know its sad but I don't even know the year or model I know its a 84,85 or 86. quadsport and has yellow plastics on it.
Well here is the deal it has been parked for a couple of years. But it has had the top end rebuilt and paperwork to prove it. the guy is moving out of state and gave me a next to nothing price as is not running.
So I knew I would have to tinker with carb ext.
1- Checked Compression (Great)
2- Changed Plug
3- quick carb tweek
Found Problem NO SPARK
I though I would check wires ,conections and kill switch first
after that Im lost, what would be next coil?
I dont want to throw parts at this till I find the problem. So I am hoping there s a typical problem and solution you all know that can help me?
Thanks

hey welcome to the forum!
theres a few things to check:
primary/source coil (on stator assembly)
secondary coil (the external one with the plug wire coming from it)
pickup coil (on stator assembly)
CDI unit (big black box on frame)
and of course, the ignition switch
start by checking the resistance on the first 3 items i listed.
i will try to get you the specs and a color coded wiring diagram to make things easier.
good luck!

henraldbane, check out the website in my signature. The site, lt230sman already linked you to. If you look in the specs section, there are some of the resistances you're looking for under electrical.
Also, post up some pics and join the LT230S social group I'm about to invite you to!
So welcome, and feel free to join us in the big 230 thread.

atvman29,
Would love to join. Great site Killer info to boot.
As for the pic's I will have to wait its kind of a basket case right now not worthy yet.
As for spark
I checked all resistance as listed by It230sman (thanks agian) and it looks like the primary/source coil is bad.I get nothing on the meter.
I am going to put one in soon, and hope it fixes the problem.
Source info would be nice if It is not breaking forum rules?
Thanks the warm welcomes and lets ride!!!
