Jetting for Z400?
#1
Hi, new here. I have an '03 Z400 that I bought back in May, moslty stock except nerf bars and under armor. I just purchased a K&N air filter, K&N powerlid, which came with 2 main jets and a full HMF sport exhaust.
I will be putting it on this weekend and don't have too much experience with re-jetting. First off, I live in the Denver area, so jetting is set for about 8000-9000 ft. currently since I do some trail riding up to around ~12,000 ft but also do track riding at ~5,500 ft.
Based on advice from a mechanic at a local shop, he advised that at such high altitude I probably would not need a jet kit (was looking at a stage 2 dyno jet kit) since less fuel is used compared to sea level. So, would you recommend putting in the 2 main jets I got with the powerlid, and any advice on how many turns of the fuel screw and how to do the jetting?
I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

hey welcome to the forum!
i'd just see how it runs at your home altitude since its basically the average of your riding spots.
chances are you will need to go a little richer on the main, and maybe one or two positions lower with the needle clip.
good luck!
