i had a float stick on my lt230, the needle and seat would not stop the fuel from flowing so because of the angle of my intake the fuel would run into the head leak past the rings and get into the oil .this does not mean your rings are bad all rings leak until they are expanded or under compression. see if turning your fuel line off after every ride takes care of the issue

when you did the topend, did you have the cylinder bored or atleast honed?

You can use sandpaper instead of a hone, just dont go up and down. As for re-using the rings......You may be up the creek. As for timing, Theres a plug you can take out on the right sidecover on the front side of the cover. Theres an arrow that lines up in that hole. Just keep easing the motor till you see that mark. Then line the marks up on the cam with the head. Thats perfectly in time, But mine is smoking just LIKE yours. lol But I think its my rings.

first thing take a compressin test and see if it at 100 your goi need rings 150 ok 190 your really good but form what you have said I tell you its your rings and no don't reuse your rings get new one
have your cylinder get honed or if I was you do right bored out get new piston and rings you may get by with honeing it and that's risk and more money
