I hav several ATV's that haven't been used in a few years, three won't run. I am aware of old fuel causing problems so I cleaned the tanks lines and fuel bowls. They all have different issues. The Suzuki Z250 is an 04. It start and runs but when I throttle it at all it dies. It runs fine idling.
Second is a Yamaha Blaster 2004. It started right up and ran for about 10 secons fine and died. It doesn't even sound like it wants to start. I cleaned the everything as much as I know how, when I put it back together it did the same thin. Started right up, ran for several seconds and died. Now doesn't even sound like it wants to start. Third is a 2004 Honda TRX 90. Pull start. I got it to idle for a few seconds several times but not much else.

Any suggestions other than taking it to the repair shop? I am not a mechanic but can feel confident working on something with a little direction. I have several hours into these machines and getting frustrated.

 

Classic clogged main jet or passages. The engine is ideling off of the pilot jet. When you try to give it throttle the carb tries to transition from pilot to main jet but can't because there is no fuel getting through the jet.

Make sure the main jet and passages to it are clean. It will run fine when you do this.

 

Can you give me a brief description on what to do? Or do I need to take it to a shop?

The carb float bowl, (the bottom of the carb) has to come off. I would take the carb off of the engine so you can clean it properly.

Take the carb float bowl off. 4 screws. Tap it and it will come right off. In the center on a small tube is the main jet. Should be a small round brass piece with a hole in it. It will have a screw driver slot in it. Unscrew it and look through the jet hole. If it is clogged, take a piece of wire and clean it out.
If it is clear, then take some carb cleaner and spray it in the hole the jet was in. Make sure carb cleaner comes out the passage in the carb.

yes a lot of the time the hole in the jet is very small and could be hard to see if dirty enough
