1997 Suzuki 300 King quad Problem

k guys ive got a 97 king quad and im having a bit of electrical problems.
I will go to start it and ill just hear a stupid click, but sometimes it will engage the starter motor and start. Then for instance it will start and ill drive for a bit and stop and wait say 10 minutes and ill go to start it and it will just click again and ill have to push the button another 50 times for it to engage the starter???
I was thinking water and/or ice in the electrical somewhere? And possibly its close to the motor because it seems when the engine has been running it would melt the ice in the wiring to water and then a circut can be transfered. And when the water freezes it cant anymore. It is getting into winter now and the tempuratures are at about -15
Could this be the problem?
Do you have any suggestions on whats going on?

I just went out a bought a brand new starter for my quad. The first day the bike started fine and now when I hit the start button the bike will turn over the all the sudden it will go to a loud noise and the bike will not start with the starter button. I can start it using the pull cord but when I pull up on the pull cord it pulls hard and it make a singing noise , but the bike will start. Any Ideas about the start problem?????

I have a similar issue on my 92 KQ 300. First start of the day I get a click, no fire. I pull the seat, push the decompression tab and manually pull the cord just turning it over (doesn't start) then I can hit the starter button and it will start. After that no problem shutting it off and restarting etc..... Looking forward to hearing ideas if anyone has some.

I just bought a 1994 KQ 300 4 days ago, and I had the same thing with just a click, then i thought i would roll the machine with it in gear and then trying again and it just started right up. the previous owner did say it does that sometimes and he just put a new battery in, so i did not think much of it till I just read this thread.
I bought the quad knowing the brakes did not work well, per the previous owner. So now I am looking at the brakes. the front brake lever (right) is very hard and only has very limited braking power, and only goes in about 1/3 of the stroke and has a very hard non-progressive stop. The left lever for the cable operated rear drum break has no resistance through the whole stroke of it when i squeeze it. It comes in contact with the handlebar grip and does not do any braking. The brake cable does move the arm on the back side of the brake plate through the whole movement, all the way till the cable stops since it hits the casing and you can not pull it any further so the cable looks to be good. The foot brake lever does the same thing, no resistance, and goes down about 2-3 inches, about double of what the specs call for.
Now on a second note, it looks like i will need new brake shoes. any suggestions on what brand you guys use?
And do you like the slotted ones?
Also, i have never worked on these sealed drum brakes, but opened up the sealed rear drum and the brake cover (#28 on microfiche) and the hub (#1 on microfiche) look like they are still attached (together). Is there a good way to seperate these two pieces? What type of grease do you use on the hub bearing?
Also i tried to look at the front shoes and can not get the brake drum off. i pulled the plug that is the one about half way up the plate and tried to push in the hole on the back side with a screw driver (only the right brake plate) (did not touch the left front drum brake) to release the shoes some but it does not seem to move very much so i justgave up on taking the drum off and squirted some brake cleaner in the hole and then closed everything up again and then tryed the brakes going forward and reverse and after a while i do have some braking happening, so i think something must have been stuck in there and i loosened it up. But i would like to be able to look at the front shoes, so any suggestion on how to remove the drum would be appreciated, thanks and Happy New Year!
