Default King Quad 700 Engine Issue

Alright I have a 2007 Suzuki King Quad 700 with about 250-300 miles on it. Everything has always ran fine, until now. Just cranked it up after it sat for 4 months, battery was dead and had to jump it, and the engine it not running smoothly. It runs fine up to about half throttle then at 3/4 - full throttle it starts sputtering and the engine is just not running nearly as smooth as it was. Anybody have any ideas what could be the problem?

Welcome! Sounds as if there is old fuel in the tank that varnished the carb? If so the first thing you will want to do is get rid of ANY old fuel in the tank then run Sea Foam with a fresh full tank of fuel thus cleaning out the carb. If that does not work a removal of the carb with a good cleaning is needed.

I agree with Hemi...sounds like old/bad fuel...I always put Sta-bil fuel stabilzer in mine during winter mounths just in case it sits longer than expected. Never had a problem with the Sta-bil!! Good Luck!

I am with stillV1 on this one. Sta-bil is the way to go.

if your battery is flat I would assume the generator is having a hard time keeping up with demand from the fuel pump. see if charging the battery (or replacing it) helps.

The gas has formed a varnish/gum on your injectors/carb jets (can't remember if KQ was fuel injected that year) Four months sitting will do that. Run Stabil in your gas and you won't have a problem with it sitting for a while.

Some fuel injector cleaner or SeaFoam will probably help clean out the goo thats there, but you'll need to actually ride it a while for that to take effect.

Your battery should be fine after the charge, but I would get a Delran trickle charger and leave it hooked up to it when you aren't riding...they come with a quick attach/detach harness for that purpose, and they work really well, especially in the winter months

Keep your gas good and your battery charged and you'll have many many years of problem free starts

Yes it could be the fuel. The 2007 KingQuad is a fuel injuection system. You need to put some fuel additive in a see if that works by cleaning the injectors. Before you store do as the others have suggested about a stabilizer. don

Donjudy2007, what did you use to jump the dead battery with?
Here's what I know about ATV/Motorcycles, never jump a dead battery from one of these machines with the motor running on the donor battery.
It will burn up the Rectifier......now if you have burned up the rectifier it will idle just fine but the more RPM's you turn the motor it will be putting out around 15 volts and will cause the Lights to be really bright and 15 volts is to much voltage for the coil and will cause miss fires(sparkplug), this only happens at higher rpm's though, bike will idle just fine. Also when you put a new battery in check to see if it boils your battery when running the motor at a higher rpm.
Please let us know what you find out!

Thanks for the info. I have "jumped" with the engine running. (no more). It runs ok at high rpm, it dies at idle sometimes. Again, thank you. don

the kq 07 is fuel injected and there is a known issue with the battery drainage. get your self a tender and keep it connected.
