Default axle problem

I just got done replacing a torn outer CV boot and when putting stuff back together ran into a problem...

I am trying to put the arms on and it isn't happening. I don't know what the part is called that the axle sits in, but I can only get one of the bolts in. The other is way off. It almost seems like the axle is too long... What could be the problem???

This is as close as it can get...

well either you need to wiggle it till it goes through or you need to force the other end into the diff the rest of the way. you may even have to use a soft mallet and pound the inner part of the axle into the tranny. its hard to tell from this pic alone

The axle seems to be completely inside the differential. It shouldn't be this hard to get in. The other side bolts in like butter!

No, but I can take some. What specific pics are you looking for?

Well, it seems I was right in the guess. It is 100% the axle.

I swapped axles to see if the problem followed, and it did. It has to be the inner joint.

well thats a good thing maybe. if you pull the axle out take a work the cv in and out and round to get it to go back into place. you may even have to slide the boot back up to make sure its together like it should be.

Is the shaft of the axle slid into the joint completely? I know sometimes they seem like they're in completely but they need to go a little further. I had to hit mine with a hammer to get them in all the way.

Yes, I did that, it is completely in the outer joint.

So that kind of narrows it down to a problem with the inner joint...
