Default Trouble with Eiger

Ok. Gotta 2007 Eiger 4x4 that recently got submerged. Changed the oil like 5 times to finally get all the water outa out. Replaced the air filter, drained and refilled the tank, checked the fuel filter, etc. It was running rough for awhile, would idle, but as soon as you gave it gas, it would die. Took the carb off and found something in the main jet. Now it starts and runs fine, but after riding for about 15 minutes, it wants to die. You can choke it, and it will start and run again. Any ideas? The carb is clean. Been through it twice. I replaced the spark plug, but didn't gap it as I didn't have the manual. Could that be the problem? BTW, I'm in IL and it's been cold here. I sometimes get a large backfire when it dies. Appears to be running lean, but not sure why. HELP!

I would say that you still have some dirt in the fuel system somewhere. I wouldn't think the sparkplug would make that big of a difference unless it was way off. It is something i would def. check though.

I checked the gap on the plug and it was ok. We swapped out CDI's from another Eiger and after about 45min of riding it started doing the same thing. It's a friggin head-scratcher, that's for sure. Also, it's running hot. The fan is coming on with normal riding, which is almost never does. I think it's running lean, but cannot tell why. I sprayed carb cleaner around the intake, and no leaks there. Anybody else? I need help.

The running hot problem is probably the cooling fins are clogged.

Sounds like some junk in carb yet. Check for white rust and get rid of all scale, if not it will flake off and haunt you later, Been there. Check all jets and passages. Good Luck!!!

Make sure the tubing that runs up from the car to the air snorkle area is empty.
Water can get in there and contaminate the fuel.
Drain the carb several times and make sure the fuel tank has been purged of all crud.

It seems to be running fine now. I went through the carb three times and that sucka is clean. Here's what I think the problem was: that vent tube that comes up from the carb looked like it was being pinched in two places, right above the tube to the air box and where it comes through the tank cover. If that thing gets blocked, it will kill the engine. We gave it a good running yesterday and no issues. Thanks for the responses, I was beginning to think I was alone. Anyway, that was a long, frustrating road. Here's what I did:

1. Cleaned the carb three times. While it was out, I took out that plug and richened the air/fuel mixture a bit.
2. Emptied the tank - twice.
3. Completely disassembled the fuel petcock and cleaned it.
4. Swapped the coil with a known working one. My bro-in-law rides the same quad.
5. Swapped the CDI with a known working one.
6. Swapped the carb with a known working one.
7. Tried to remove the muffler silencer to no avail. Ground the nut off, but it still wouldn't move.
8. Drank a lot of beer and cursed a lot.

Right after it submerged, we cleaned and re-oiled the air filter - but I don't recommend that. Just spend $25 and put a UNI filter on there - much more durable and easier to clean. It took 5 oil changes to get the water out. Lastly, we replaced the plug.

Thanks all.
