Question 1985 lt250 won't run

Hey all,
I bought a 85 lt250 used. The motor would start and run fine until I took the air box out to clean and check everything. Once I put everything back the bike would start only with the choke on and will not rev.
I checked all the wiring and everything looks tight and clean.
I noticed a small switch on the back of the motor with 3 blue wires. Two go to the wiring harness and one goes into the stator cover. The wires look a little frayed. What is this switch and does anyone have any idea what else I should check?

It's a LT250r
After some more fiddeling I think it's got dirt in the carb. I can pull with the choke all the way on and it'll run for about 3 minutes. If I take the choke off or try to give it gas it begins to sputter and wants to die. If I start it 3 or 4 times it gets to the point where it'll just fire up and die withour running at all.
I thought I did something or FUBARed something when I took it apart, but now it looks like dirt got in the carb and it's my luck it happened when I was F**king with it.
