while i dont have a z400, i came very close to buying a z not too long ago (but decided to save a lil more and get an ltr) so i did a bunch of research on them. it seems like the only major problem is the upper shock mount on the 2003 models. so i think you should be clear of that.

The Z is a nice quad tho at $4000 that seems a little steep to me. Good luck with the new ride!

I almost went with the LTZ400 but I took one look at the LTR450 and I was sold. OH Baby does it scream across the deserts of California. The only draw back was it came stock with moto tires that left the back end dragging in the rocks. went out took the plunge for a matched set of "Hole Shot" desert tires and racing rims. Yah Baby what a ride.

All depends what you want it for, but 4,000 seems a little much I got my 450 new for under $8,000

Well, I think he/she was saying the value of the mods were well over $4K, not the wheeler was priced @ $4K.

In addition to the shock mount 230sman mentioned, I remember hearing the 03's had a flimsy rear axle. A lot of the 03 Z400s I see for sale in my area have a new rear axle.

Also, I have a 2006 DVX 400 which is a Z400 clone and the price on it was $2600 in terrific condition (I only paid $1500 after I got $1100 for my 86 lt230s FROM A DEALER!! ). The 06's were updated with piggy back shocks all around, a few motor mods, and (for the Z's) a sexy blue frame. 09's got efi and LT-R styling amongst other things.

In conclusion, I would avoid 03's, favor 06 and ups, and make do with an 04 or 05.

Post some pics when you get them! Here's my DVX in Michigan this fall:

piggyback shocks came in 05.
I have an 04 and an 05. They are great quads. I assume if it has 4 grand in mods there must be some suspension upgrades.......

Oh that's right, the DVX and KFX were a year behind. My bad!

And yes, with 4 grand, you can get a lot of good stuff!

- High Compression Piston(12-12:5.1)
- Stage 3 Port and Polish
- YOSHIMURA CDI box
- Cams( trying to find out who makes them)
- Stage 3 ELKA shocks up front W piggyback reservoirs
- +3 Longtravel up front
- Stage 3 ELKA shock in rear W remote reservior
- +2 Swingarm
- +3 Axle
- ELKA shock linkage
- Billet Aluminum bearing carrier

- Parking brake block off
- Candy Blue plastics (race cut)
- Lonestar Steering Stem
- AC Racing nerfbars

i am going to replace the twist throttle with a thumb. i just have one question. could someone take a pic of the hose routing on thier carb? Two go to the tank and there is one other coming from the left side. if you are standing behind the machine it will be the upper left side towards you. Thanks(not the choke plunger)

Great looking rig and a killer deal man! I miss the blue on my 230. Although the orange of my DVX catches a lot of attention.

I think I hate you! Sure it's not stolen cuz that is one hell of a deal. There's $1500 just in the shocks.
That hose is a vent/breather and it routes onto the snorkel on the airbox if it still has one. If not just point it towards the back.
You really should just chitcan that stock carb and put an FCR on there. With the mods you have it's seriously holding you back.
