Default Suzuki LTR450

Hey I would like to get a thread going with Suzuki LTR450 Riders. Share war stories and let everyone know how your tricking out your LTR450. Give everyone your likes, dislikes about the quad and issues you have had and how you fixed them.

I'll Start the ball rolling. I live in Barstow, CA and the wife and I built our house next to the Stddard ORV area so we have unlimited riding whenever we want....LIFE IS GOOD... The wife runs a 2007 Suzuki LTZ250 and I run a 2007 Suzuki LTR450. So far what I have done to my bike is remove the side cowlings at the radiator to allow more air to the engine in our hot weather. Removed the plastic leg guards from the back fenders cut the braces and then reinstalled the fender brace to stop fender rub from my back tires. Installed skid plates to the belly and rear end of my quad because of the desert rocks and gravel to protect my rear brake rotor and keep brush out of my chain, replaced the factory 8" rear moto rims and tires with 9" rims and tires. Replaced all four tires and rims with a matched set of "Holeshot" desert racing tires and the "beadlock" racing rims to match. Installed the kill switch to my bike so if I dump off the bike it stops before it can run me or someone else over. Last but not least after bending the handlebar with my ribs I replaced the handle bar with a re-enforced "Moto" racing bar and a set of "moto" hand guards installed at the grips to protect my hands from rocks and thorn bushes.

As for me I never ride without wearing all of my body armor, riding shirts, riding pants, high boots, gloves, mirrored goggles for the sun and my head goes into nothing less than a Snell/DOT racing helmet. The kill switch cord is mounted to my body armor so I cannot even move the bike while running unless I have the body armor on.

I mounted a small pack on the back grab bar that has a BLM map, first aid kit and a tow strap just in case, hot weather and the long rides I carry a military camel back with two liters of ice cubes and water.

Issues:

Other than bolts installed by the factory so tight you cannot get them off I had a radiator issue with the fluid splashing up and then out of the overflow tube when I hit a bump in the trail..the cure was simple a bolt inserted into the end of the overflow tube and then taped in with electrical tape...I now have a sealed system just like a car, no more spilled fluid to smell as it cooks off on the belly of the engine. I have had the bike out running in 100+ weather and it has never overheated yet.

Shouldn't the overflow tube be going to the overflow tank? Did you buy the quad new?

See you at Slash X! My first time there was in about 1978 or so....back when you could still camp at Bell Mountain.

Been to Razor OHV or Johnson Valley? Both have some fun sand hills and are within an hour or so of you.

The tube comes out of the over flow tank and empties on the right side of the engine. For some reason when I hit the bumps it would splash up and then run down (out of) the overflow tube onto the frame and engine. took it back to barstow MC and they all shrugged their shoulders.

We moved here from the cold North (Alaska through Minnesota to here) two years ago and the first year was spent building our house up on the barstow Heights. We just got our quads last Feb so we are still learning the areas.

the wife and I try to get out into Slash X and Lin Wood areas every weekend. Just look for the quad running lead to a smaller quad with the "smiley Face" flag on the back end thats me. The wife and I are always interested in finding new areas to ride; however, she is not as experienced as I am but she is getting there so she goes a alot slower on her 250.

I've heard about johnson valley but never been there. We want to do Dumont Dunes someday but we keep hearing the horror stories about the drunks acting stupid out there so we have not been real excited to go. was going to go ride calico but I keep hearing about the bike and quad swallowing pit mines and every one I see with damaged bikes all got them at calico so I don't think I'm going there any time soon. My daughter lives next to the Mojave river so now I have a safe place to park the truck and trailer so the wife and I are talking about going out on the mojave river and tear up the soft sand...what a joy that will be to play in something where there are no quad killing rocks zeroing in on your skid plate.

Look forward to meeting up with you someday out in the sand.

go to dumont on an off weekend and you will be fine. We went for the first time in October and there was hardly anybody there. Air down to 2.5-3 lbs.
