Default 1998 King Quad Help!!!

I bought this bike without a manual. The dealerships around wont be able to get me one until the end of the week. I can't find any info on this bike on the net. Could someone tell me what engine oil to use? Thx in advance.

the bike wont rev up, i think its not getting enough fuel. It will start on first touch of the start button after sitting for a week with the choke on full. But keep sputtering and backfiring when I try to give it gas. Any ideas?

your carb is probably full of crud if it's been sitting up for a while.

there's a lot of talk and opinions about the "right" oil to use. Some swear that you are an idiot and are slowly destroying your engine if you don't use a high-dollar synthetic, but I have run Pennzoil 10-30 and 10-40 in my Hondas and Suzukis for years and they work just fine. The key is changing it out on a regular basis.

Default me too

im having what sounds like the same problem
i have 94 kq
same 300 (280) engine
mine will start and idle perfectly
and i can give it some throttle, slowly, and it will run fine
even under load, like crawling up a hill, its fine but only with enough throttle to keep the tranny engaged
as soon as the rpms go up it bogs out
been trying to figure this out since fall 09
it started doing this sporatically
first i changed the air filter
then i changed the plug
then i checked the gas lines
then i replaced the coil
then i checked the carb, it was absolutely clean
this weekend i got brave and took the diaphram assy off
sidenote:: it will run with the diaphram assy removed
??
i thought i may have an idea why its doing this
since the choke cable had a sharp bend in it where it comes out of the bent tubing at the handgrip area,, i figured maybe the choke is partially on
since it runs good cold and then starts acting up as it warms up
i straightened the cable with tape and tie straps
it still does it, possibly not as bad as before, but its hard to tell cuz one day will be different from the next with this problem

one thing i saw when i removed the diaphram was that hthe choke lever actuates a small internal rod at the top of carb
when you choke it, the rod slides to expose a small 1/8" diameter port
when choke is off the port is closed by the rod
not sure at all what thats all about

im just very confused on this, anyone, please HELP!

oh, and the oil question, 10w40 pennzoil conventional
the oil lubes the engine and tranny, fyi, (am i right? i think so,, its been a long day)

thanks,,,,

ps, i know this is getting long but bare with me
it looks like this carb is a little throttle body,, i didnt know that until i took off the diaphram assy and looked down thru there towards the front,, hmm

does anyone know if theres a choke plate, like a butterfly plate in this carb?

There is no choke butterfly plate. Instead of reducing air flow to enrich the mixture, the "choke" lever allows more gas into the engine.

Ive got a 2000 King Quad 300.....sorry no help on the manual, Ive been looking for one myself. If I find one I will be sure to come back here and send it your way.

As for the oil.....Im in the regular oil and change often crowd.

I also use Rotella T 15w40 or Mobil DeloVac 15w40......whichever I can find the best deal on.

Sounds like the main jet is plugged, take the carb apart, remove all jets , spray carb cleaner through them and the holes in the carb.

yup, took the carb off (what a pain) cleaned all the jets and everything and she purrs like a kitten now! runs mint

still looking for an owners manual, the dealerships can't get them anymore, they don't make them. Can't find one on ebay either. If anyone knows someone with that bike that has the manual sitting around, let me know I'll give them $30 for it.

thx for all your help guys!!!
